When I was around 19, I was still struggling with acne after a few years of it. One of the things I was prescribed was clindamycin 1% gel. It did get rid of my acne somewhat. But it also made my skin red and itchy. I had it replaced with topical niacinamide, and my acne ended up improving a lot more, alongside general brightening and smoothing effects on my skin. Clindamycin obviously works, but consider that long term use can create antibiotic-resistance in pathogens (this was also a concern of the researchers). There are always alternatives.
