A lot of people already know this, but you may be one of those who does not. So many people have passed through the traditional educational system, and are disappointed and frustrated with the results they are seeing in the real world. They can’t find jobs or fulfillment since they left the comfort of the school system. Consequently, they spew a lot of bile and frustration and continuously disparage the system. They claim that is a scam. It is expensive and fruitless. And the list goes on. But the truth is that education has saved more people from poverty than can be accurately quantified. Let me put it to you like this: There is absolutely nothing wrong with the education system. You may not like what I have said, but there’s plenty of data to support this perspective, some of which I will provide in this particular article. 1. I conducted a study of the world 200 richest people. I uncovered that 84.5% of them had college degrees and postgraduate degrees. Another 6% were University dropouts who left to pursue their ideas full-time. Another 7.5% of them finished their secondary school education. In other words, most of them are products of the traditional educational system. 👇🏿 https://t.co/oB7C1V5a2E 2. Lately, I’ve been fascinated with the world’s greatest inventors. Nowadays, we have more of a tendency to quantify a person’s value by how much money they are making rather than the impact of their creativity on humankind. For example, we all probably know Larry Page and Sergey Brin. They invented and revolutionized the way information is found and exchanged today. It was an invention that made them billionaires. Incidentally, Larry and Sergey were studying for their PhDs at Stanford University, when they created this solution. You might think it wasn’t always that way. But if you take a journey back in time to the 1800s, you will uncover a similar pattern. 90% of the people who invented everything that we routinely use or are improving upon today had an advanced education. In short, those who have an advanced education have contributed more to improving our experience in this world than they are given credit for. It is true that scholars are not always able to monetize, or reap the financial rewards of their genius, but there is no question that their collective education has changed the world. In the United States, 90% of inventions come from people who have at least a bachelor’s degree. However, you will also find that only about 20% of existing inventions are commercially used. In other words, there are lots of things that have been figured out by scientists and scholars that people have found no commercial value for. Lots of powerful, life changing ideas still remain in “cold storage.” What does all this mean? It means that getting an education and being able to reap the financial rewards of that education are not necessarily two sides of the same coin. You don’t have to go through the traditional school system to make something of yourself. But if you do, do not expect that the world is going to somehow automatically reward you just for finishing a rigorous academic program. It is your responsibility to learn how to monetize your knowledge- no one else’s. I heard someone put it this way: if you are going to school without already having identified the problem you are going to solve for society with the knowledge you acquire, you probably should not bother.
