@life0fStacy13 As someone married to an LPR (Legal Permanent Resident AKA Green Card holder) I can say that some of it is frustration with the system. She was born overseas and adopted by an American couple when she was 4 years old. Her parents didn’t do the paperwork they needed to and we didn’t even find out she wasn’t a citizen until we got married. She had grown up in the US and always assumed she was a naturalized citizen. We paid hundreds of dollars to file a form only to wait a year to be told it was the wrong form and she needed to file another one. Later she went in for what she thought was going to be her final interview only to be told there was something missing in the application and she was going to have to file again and wait for months again at which point she just said screw it, I’m done with this bullshit. In her mind she said “I’m here legally already I’m not going to deal with these assholes anymore.” Her situation may be unique but I do feel like the bureaucracy of dealing with USCIS is a gigantic pain in the ass. Mandatory in person meetings that you have to wait months for, dumbass USCIS employees who don’t know what they’re talking about (how we ended up filing the wrong form in the first place), etc. just makes people less likely to try to get full citizenship IMO.
