Collaborative digital annotation / 'reading trails' platform

Bragging: If I worked for a larger company or some kind of thinktank, I'd probably have several patents by now. I blogged about a "collaborative reading device" 4 years before the Kindle launched. The "reading trails" feature idea eventually became Twitter. (Log of stuff people highlighted.) I was inspired by people who wrote notes in the margins of library books. I wanted a collaborative digital version of that. I started writing the code ~2004. In retrospect, I planned to insert the annotation controls using a cgi redirect script. Today it would be easier to code just using Javascript, like inject the controls into sentences using the DOM :-/
