@im_tolumichael Exactly right! It usually is more about one’s ability to apply knowledge. Maybe even more so than what the person studied a lot of the time. Of course, this does not mean technical depth and theoretical knowledge is useless. For example, there are many technical degrees like chemical engineering and many applied sciences that cannot be learned in 3 months by watching YouTube videos. 😅 However, the general principle is that if you can do the harder thing (like getting a first class or Second Class Upper degree in your field), then it should not be too hard for you to pivot into another career that you may not have learned at so much depth in the University. To your point, a Sociologist probably has more economic value in the US than in Nigeria and is likely to find more direct career-related opportunities there. Nevertheless, many people make a very grievous error. They think just going to school is more important than what you study in school. For example: I didn’t score highly enough in the entrance exams, so I’ll just do Philosophy, since I could not make the cut for Law. This is a common mistake. Do not do this, if you are still at the stage where you can make the choice. But even if you are not, you can still correct your trajectory too. The age we are in now is often referred to as the fourth industrial revolution. The access we have to actionable information is unprecedented. Use it to your advantage. Find out which professions are the most lucrative and become an expert in one or more of them. This is how you attract wealth to yourself. In other words, you can literally reverse-engineer the financial outcomes you want to see in your life by being intentional about what you spend your time and energy learning. Here is a simple search of the top paying professions in the world today. 👉🏿 https://t.co/oUWJsc3nVV Find the one that aligns the most with your talents and lock-in on it. You will observe that high paying professions typically have relatively fewer practitioners. For example, how many cardiothoracic surgeons exist in the entire world? The scarcity justifies their extremely high compensation. Pick your niche and invest the next 5-10 years becoming an expert in a high-value profession. In other words, be intentional. Become one of the few, and watch your story change. Not everyone is going to be an entrepreneur or social media influencer, so look for a stable way to generate wealth for yourself. You have control. 🩵
